Treehouses don’t necessarily need trees to be places of adventure and wonder. And that’s definitely the case for the newly-launched Ngala Treehouse in South Africa .
Created by andBeyond, a tour company for Africa , Asia and South America , the Ngala Treehouse is a remote overnight retreat that offers its guests the chance to sleep under the stars and observe the South African bush from a unique point of view.
Located inside the Ngala Private Game Reserve, at the borders of South Africa’s Kruger National Park , the treehouse is surrounded by a variety of animal species, including the Big Five . For example, the reserve actually supports several large lion prides - lucky guests might catch sight of these big cats wandering around the fence surrounding the treehouse.
The Ngala Treehouse stands 12 metres above ground and is composed of two sleeping areas - one inside and one on the roof, under a retractable cover. There’s also a bathroom with shower and an open dining area. There isn’t a fully-equipped kitchen, but guests can still enjoy a variety of snacks and drinks - as well as a tapas-inspired picnic upon their arrival to the treehouse.
The idea behind the Ngala Treehouse was to create “an innovative overnight wilderness experience,” in a fully solar-powered building meant for short stays. Access to the Treehouse is complementary to having booked a room to one of andBeyond’s permanent lodges, the Ngala Tented Camp and the Ngala Safari Lodge.
